Royal Delft Blue Ceramic Tile depicting a famous painting by Dutch Painter Frans Hals 6 x 6 inches. Excellent vintage condition. Made in Holland.
The painting is "Two Singing Boys with a Lute and a Music Book" by Dutch Golden Age painter Frans Hals, created around 1625 by this Dutch Golden Age and Baroque painter.
The original oil on canvas painting is part of the collection of The Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister in Kassel, Germany. I believe this tile was purchased at museum.
Hals masterfully uses chiaroscuro, strong contrasts between light and shadow, to create depth and drama. The painting is known for Hals' characteristic loose brushwork and his ability to capture the boys' expressions and the textures of their clothing and the instrument.
It is believed to be an allegory representing the sense of Hearing from a potential series on the five senses. The artwork is a significant piece from the 17th century, reflecting Hals's skill in capturing emotion and movement in his portraits.
